Headteacher | £Competitive
salary-negotiable for exceptional candidate

Thank you for your interest in leading The Costello School. We aim to promote an ethos of excellence and high aspirations, celebrating all achievements at all levels throughout the school. The inclusive nature of the school means that no one is left out of our strive for excellence.

Situated within expansive, tree-lined grounds the school is attractive with plentiful space to enjoy and we are fortunate to have a wide variety of excellent sporting facilities. Take a few steps away from the site and you will realise The Costello School is a town centre campus set close to the centre of Basingstoke in northeast Hampshire.

This unique metropolitan setting presents an appealing and vibrant feel to our school and really does offer all the advantages and opportunities you might imagine from being at the very heart of this large and popular Hampshire town.

We are a school with strong heritage and tradition. Founded in 1908, the school started life as one of the county’s largest girls’ grammar schools, before transforming into a mixed comprehensive in the early 1970’s. The last decade has accelerated this pace of change, moving from a specialist Technology College ten years ago, through Trust status into what is now a high-performing convertor Academy following our latest ‘Good’ Ofsted inspection in 2012.

This evolution has equipped The Costello School with a wide variety of strengths. Not only recently refurbished areas of the school – but a staff and student body who truly desire and strive for continued improvement for the community we serve.

We are extremely proud of what we have achieved over last few years. However as a secondary school we recognise that there are many challenges and opportunities ahead in our journey towards becoming a beacon of outstanding provision for the town.

I hope that this recruitment microsite will provide you with an insight into this exciting opportunity. We recognise that while this is an important process for us, it is also a career move that will need to be considered carefully by potential candidates. We would therefore welcome you having a confidential, informal conversation about the post with our colleagues at Navigate and we would encourage you to come and visit the school, to see why this is a prospect not to be missed. Please call Phil Watt or Will Hogg at Navigate on 0844 800 5300.

Kind regards,
Carol Bode, Chair of Governors
